water

An unsafe water source in Tamale, Ghana.

Water, Earth’s most precious resource, serves simultaneously as habitat, nourishment and cleanser.
Underground aquifers, dozens of miles deep and hundreds of miles wide, are the Earth’s second-largest reserve of fresh water, after ice caps and glaciers. Filled over billions of years, they are today being drained at two to four times their natural recharge rate.

We take it for granted, we waste it, and we even pay too much to drink it from little plastic bottles.

And still, today, nearly 1 billion people in the developing world don’t have access to it.

Clean, safe drinking water is scarce. It is the foundation of life, a basic human need. Yet today, all around the world, far too many people spend their entire day searching for it.

The importance of access to clean water cannot be overstated.

The Department of Water Management is responsible for delivering close to 1 billion gallons of fresh pure water to the residents of Chicago and 125 suburban communities everyday. it is also responsible for removing the waste water and storm runoff from the streets of Chicago, via our sewer system and delivering the effluent for treatment to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. This is all accomplished through a network of purification plants, tunnels, pumping stations, water mains, sewer mains, valves and structures that require constant upkeep and maintenance.

living in the post industrial country, and getting water facilities in a minimal rate, we barely know how much water we are wasting in a day. but after monitoring the water use in my day to day life, for e.g, how much i use while bathing, in shower, brushing and so on, i use approximately 199 gallons in a days, 1393 gallons in a week and 78008 gallons in a year. of course i need water to survive so do all living beings. but my in my daily activities i waste a lot of water unecessarrly and i believe many people do( not every one).

when i brush or take a shower or wash my face i turn the flow of water go on until i m done with my all the activities. this aspect of mine misusing the water might not harm me. but there is only 0.2 percent of total drinking water, many kids are dying of water disease and not having a clean drinking water. if i control my habits and many people who are like me did the same it might be very helpful not to waste the water.

trees and the environment

picture of tulsi plant

what trees have to do with the environment?

We like trees around us because they make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to the presence of trees beyond simply observing their beauty. We feel serene, peaceful, restful, and tranquil in a grove of trees. We are “at home” there. Hospital patients have been shown to recover from surgery more quickly when their hospital room offered a view of trees. The strong ties between people and trees are most evident in the resistance of community residents to removing trees to widen streets. Or we note the heroic efforts of individuals and organizations to save particularly large or historic trees in a community.

The stature, strength, and endurance of trees give them a cathedral-like quality. Because of their potential for long life, trees frequently are planted as living memorials. We often become personally attached to trees that we or those we love have planted.

tulsi, which is Sanskrit for holy basil, is a medicinal herb that has been a part of the Ayurvedic tradition for centuries, according to Medicinal Herb Info. Tulsi is often recommended for the treatment of fever, cough and the common cold, and contains antispasmodic and antibacterial properties. Before you begin to use tulsi medicinally, seek the advice of our health care provider. ulsi is considered to be an adaptogenic herb, which means that it helps the body counteract the effects of stress. It acts to prevent the overproduction of stress-induced corticosterone, dopamine, and serotonin.

ulsi has been studied for its ability to protect the stomach against ulcers and heal existing ulcers. The suspected reason for the effect is its antioxidant properties and its ability to inhibit lipoxygenase production.

it is a herb. its leaves are small and almosr round. its a flowering plant. its stem is very small and is branches ito many branches. and it is considered that it gives odd a lot of oxygen and absorbed lot of carbon dioxide.

ulsi or tulasi is a sacred plant for Hindus. Water mixed with tulsi petals is given to the dying to raise their departing

souls to heaven.n. Tulsi, which is Sanskrit for “the incomparable one”, is worshipped throughout India, most often regarded as a consort of Krishna in the form of laxmi.

i think a wild life is not affected if there is no tulsi. but this plant is a medical herbal as well as the holy pant in Hindu religion. most of the Hindus plant this tree in their garden or in front of the house. this plant is good for health as a medicine and if planted in front of the house or somewhere around it is good scientifically too. if all the trees of holy basil is cut and thrown away of course it will affect the environment. because of this plant we get much oxygen and this is a medical herbal too, it will affect if we dont have this plant at all in the world.

population and the world

from my environmental science i got a chance to know that we r using the resource and our earth at the rate of 1.3. it does mean that we are using 1 and the half earth. over population is not causing only a problem to our resources but aslo to many factor. such as:

1. over population is leading to environmental problems

2. expotential population growth and develpoment leads to faster deplition of resources

3. population grows expotentially

4. pollution

now the issue is how to control the existing population. there are many and many methods of controlling the population. educating people, awareness programme, contraceptives etcs

in my openion i think there are adeduate methods of contraceptives. people should know about the contraceptives and start using them if they dont want babies. in my openion people should think twice for having babies if the economic status of the individuals is weaker.

i think abortion and contraceptives are two different things. one contrls not to have conception and another is if something happens in life and baby is cusing problem or mother dont want to have that  child for some reason she can abort the child.

teenages should have free access of certain contraceptive like condoms and birth contrlling pill. it help to control the population as well as to continue teenagers life in a environment so that they can continue their education without any barriers. and government should consider this situation and make a flexible law for this situation.

nothing is impossible. but our country is a demacratic and a capitalist country. noone can poke to anybodys personal affair and life to do something. but i think this is an global issue. if the huge priority is given and incentives to the population of the united states than could work.

the control of population by controlling the immirants and illigal people of the united nation sounds very political to me. but if the visas rated is dropped to zero and all the illigal immigrants are deported than of course there will be a significant change in the population of the united nation. but i dnt belive that the action of population control with this kind of action will be appropriate.

some country use involuntary population control methos too. i learn these things from one of my classmate. she told us that government mixed some kinds of chemical in the public drinking water which prevent from man and woman to have a conception.  in china forced abortion is practiced. but these things dont work in all the world and a postindustrialised country like united states.

population growth and the resource use, and pollution are directly propertional. high population high resource use. and high pollution. economy is directly affected by the population growth. because more resource is used of the nation. and deplition of the resource. it affects the ecomony of the family too. it drives them poorer and poorer. this this the main problem of the developing country that is poverty.
